Lionel Briand

Prof. Briand holds a Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) with the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the University of Ottawa. He also is on a part-time leave from the SnT center at the University of Luxembourg, where he holds an ERC Advanced grant. He is an IEEE Fellow, an ACM Fellow, and is the recipient of the IEEE CS Harlan Mills Award and ACM SIGSOFT Outstanding Research award. He has 28 years of experience in collaborative research with industry, including the automotive, aerospace, satellite, financial, and legal domains. He is currently heading the Nanda lab. 

His main research interests include:

• Testing, verification, and validation of software systems (including security and AI aspects)

• Applications of machine learning, evolutionary computing, and natural language processing to software engineering

• Model-driven development and engineering

• Requirements engineering

• Software quality assurance
